BBC presenter Evan Davies was told at his wedding that his father had killed himself. Ants and Arts News

Evan Davies has told how his wedding day turned into a “reflective” moment when he learned his father had taken his own life.

gave The BBC The Radio 4 presenter, also known for hosting Dragon’s Den, revealed to his wedding guests that he had just been told his father had died but said not to “panic” and “there’s nothing we can do”.

Mr Davies said he cried the next day when he was asked about his marriage.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, the presenter said her 92-year-old father, Quentin, had been diagnosed with bowel cancer and had a weak heart.

He said his father had also “felt guilty” about not looking after Mr Davies’ mother, who had been admitted to a care home in the meantime. Covid Global Pandemic with symptoms of Dementia.

During his wedding, Mr. Davis said he received a text message from his brother, Roland, telling him to call her.

Despite the news, Mr. Davis is urged by Roland and his other brother, Barrick, to get on with his day.

Mr Davies told a small number of his guests of the news and said the July 2022 wedding in London had been a “very warm, supportive, reflective day”.

“We just got some news,” he said at his wedding reception. “My father is dead. But I don’t want you to panic, he was very old and it was definitely time.

“There’s really nothing we can do. So I’m going to suggest we move on.”

Quentin, who had previously emailed his sons with suicidal intentions, left a bag of fresh clothes for his wife, while notes were found next to her body.

One note said: “To all my family, I am so sorry – so, so sorry – for having this effect on you. But this is the best outcome.

“My system is shutting down and I’m on the verge of a mental breakdown. I really have no choice. Thank you all for being such a wonderful family.”

Mr Davies married Guillaume Baltz after their civil partnership ceremony in 2012 when Quentin also gave a “proud and loving” speech.

The radio presenter added: “We’ve all speculated what was going through his mind… Not a good day, is there? And I know he didn’t do it to spoil our day.”
