Winning a Super Bowl is an accomplishment in itself, but hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in years past is a feat few NFL teams have accomplished.
The New England Patriots are the last team to win two consecutive Super Bowls, winning the title following the 2003 and 2004 seasons. A total of eight NFL franchises have won the big game in two straight seasons.
Patrick Mahomes is a two-time Super Bowl MVP and the Kansas City Chiefs have made it to the title game three times in the past four seasons. As he reported to training camp Tuesday ahead of the 2023 season, Mahomes expressed his desire to once again be the last team in February for the Chiefs.

“Everybody’s encouraged by it,” Mahomes said Tuesday.
“You’ve got to be motivated to do it again. When you have that parade, when you go through the offseason that I went through, you want to do it again,” Mahomes said.

On Wednesday, the Chiefs opened a three-day camp for quarterbacks and rookies. Full squad practice is set to begin later this week.
Mahomes added that he does not take the opportunity to compete for a Super Bowl lightly.
“You only get those opportunities by winning Super Bowls. And so for us, we want to make sure we can try to win that Super Bowl again because at this moment, that’s the feeling you want to have every time you get a chance to do that.”

The Chiefs defeated the Eagles in February in a thrilling Super Bowl LVII. Three years ago, Kansas City dominated the San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl LIV. They advanced to Super Bowl LV the following year, but lost to Tom Brady and the Buccaneers 31-9.
Despite experiencing significant success in recent seasons, Mahomes said he plans to do what he can to keep the team moving.
“This time I think I’m going to really try to push and motivate the guys to keep trying to get better even if we’re winning football games,” Mahomes said. “Let’s not be satisfied with just winning. [but also] Finding ways to get better every week.”

The two-time All-Pro quarterback also acknowledged the level of difficulty the Chiefs will face in the AFC this upcoming season.
“Whenever you get that opportunity, you don’t let it go. You really take advantage of it and it’s tough. I think it’s going to be the toughest it’s ever been. … When you look at the AFC, you see a path to the playoffs for almost every team. I know I’ve said it every year, but I think this year is a challenge and we’ve got to try to come out better this week. Win as many football games and put ourselves in that position. Keep it.”

Mahomes also gave an update on the ankle he suffered this past postseason.
“It feels great,” he said. “Going in I guess. [offseason practice]I was still a little timid about running and cutting and things like that, but as I got closer to minicamp and the OTA phase that followed, I got that confidence back in my ankle.
“I’ll make sure it’s ready to go and I think I’m in a good place with it.”
