Islamabad: The government has activated the General National Nuclear Detection Structure (DGNNA) to prevent possible smuggling of nuclear assets, waste and any other materials related to nuclear energy.
As per the details, the main office of the organization will be in Islamabad, while four regional offices were initially set up in the name of the National Directorate for Nuclear Detection in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta, and the DGNNA will be headed directly by the Federal Board of Directors will report to the Revenue while the regional offices will report to DG National Detection Architecture.
Apart from this, the FBR has issued a notification regarding the jurisdiction and powers of the officers of DGNNA and its affiliates.
In this regard, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued an official notification. A senior official of the FBR said that the creation of the DGNNA was carried out under the Finance Act 2022 and in the same act it was mentioned that the FBR Gazette notice on the establishment and operation of this General Directorate. According to the notification, it will be the responsibility of the Directorate General of National Engineering for Nuclear Detection to ensure the implementation of all international conventions, treaties and agreements related to nuclear energy and also to ensure the implementation of all local laws, rules and procedures in this regard. Apart from this, DGNNA will supervise and monitor the regional directorates established across the country.
