Karachi: The administration of the University of Karachi has filed an official complaint with the Government of Sindh to vacate its valuable land on University Road from the encroaching mafia.
According to Access News, the Karachi University administration has lodged an official complaint with the Sindh government for clearing valuable land on University Road from trespassing mafia and has also recommended strict action against trespassing mafia in this regard.
The university administration revealed that the mafia seized most of the land extending a kilometer and a half outside the university campus.
The Registrar of the University of Karachi, Dr. Abdul Waheed Baloch, wrote an official letter to the Deputy Commissioner of the Eastern Province and requested the handover of the university’s land.
In this letter, we refer to the encroachments made by the various mafia on the other side of the road from the Sheikh Zayed Islamic Center to the Silver Jubilee Gate by the Karachi University administration, and it is said that it is 1.64 kilometers long and 55 meters wide from the university. Off Campus: Recently, the land has come under the control of illegal squatter gangs, with slum dwellers, nurseries, car dealers and restaurants encroaching on it.
On the other hand, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Karachi, Prof. Dr. Khaled Al-Iraqi, said, “The university administration sent letters to the district administration and informed about this matter, and now we are waiting for any action from the administration.”
It should be noted that if the district administration takes any action against the relevant trespassing mafias, then questions arise about the mechanism that the Karachi University administration will be able to create to protect its territory in the future, because the relevant offices in Karachi University have long been occupied. They have placed the responsibility on each other while the management is unable to make any plan regarding the use of this land
Apart from that, the letter written by the Karachi University Registrar a few days ago is the third time in the year. Prior to this, the same letters from last year were written on 11th November 2021 and again on 9th March 2022 stating that the occupation of University land is in violation of the ‘Indus Public Property Act 2010 to remove encroachment’ and this land is the legal property of the University of Karachi which It was given over to the campus as state land. Therefore, the Karachi University administration informs the office of the Deputy Commissioner in the Eastern Province and requests that the necessary measures be taken in this regard and issues directions to remove the infringement and its structure so that the university campus can be restored. The land can be freed from mafia possession.
In this regard, Express also contacted the Deputy Commissioner of East Region Raja Tariq and inquired from him about any possible action in connection with the transfer of valuable land to the university. He said, “At the moment, they are not aware of the ongoing defence. He is busy with exhibition arrangements and will soon meet the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Karachi regarding This issue.
He said that he was in charge of this area only 5 months ago, and the occupation was earlier. He wondered what the other vice-chancellors were doing at the time of the occupation and why they had not told the administration. I have written three letters to said office in one year.
