On July 15, a 33-year-old Indonesian fitness influencer died after breaking his neck while trying to lift a 450-pound barbell.
Justin Vicky, who had amassed over 30,000 followers on Instagram, met with a fatal accident while trying to stretch his legs while holding a barbell on his shoulders. He was accompanied by a spotter.
The bodybuilder previously called the workout “dangerous as hell” in a fitness video posted on his Instagram on July 5.
“The squat gives you opportunities like no other exercise you can think of. But it’s dangerous as hell,” Vicki was heard saying in the Instagram video.

In a video obtained by an Indonesian TV station, Vicky is seen attempting to lift a massive dumbbell. He is accompanied by his watchman who stands directly behind him.
As he tries to hold the weight, Vicky is seen collapsing into a sitting position as the barbell falls on the back of his neck. His spotter also loses his balance and can be seen falling backwards during the terrifying incident.
After the accident, Justin was taken to a local hospital with a broken neck and severe pressure on the vital nerves connecting to his heart and lungs.
He underwent emergency surgery but died shortly afterwards.

Paradise Bali, the gym where he worked and where the accident happened, wrote A heartfelt Instagram postcalls Vicki “more than just a fitness expert.”
“He was a beacon of encouragement, motivation, and unwavering support.”
“Today, we gather to celebrate the incredible life of our beloved personal trainer and friend Justin,” she wrote. “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of his passing, and yet, our spirits are lifted by his profound impact on each of us.”
