Massachusetts high school lacrosse star, 17, dies in boating accident

A high school lacrosse star lost his life in a Cape Cod boat wreck Friday night.

Sadie Morrow, who was about to start her senior year at Dover Sherborne High School, died at age 17 after disappearing in Seaslet Harbor.

The boat Moro was involved in an accident and was dislodged after hitting a jetty.

A 17-year-old lacrosse star died Friday in a boating accident.

Coast Guard and local diving teams recovered his body from a nearby beach about 90 minutes after the accident.

Morrow was part of state championship teams as a midfielder/defender in both 2021 and 2022 and committed to play at Gettysburg College, which won the 2017 and 2018 DIII national championships.

“Working as a team to achieve these accomplishments, and being a starter this season has been extremely rewarding and motivating. I can’t wait to continue my athletic and academic careers together.” Moreau once wrote.

“Sadie’s smile could light up a room, she had a heart of gold and the sweetest spirit,” said the Dover-Sherborn High School principal. John Smith said. “She had such a strong sense of self and loved adventure and all things outdoors. A hard-working student and great athlete, Sadie was genuine and easily kind.”

Dover Sherborne Public Schools Superintendent Beth McCoy said, “The Dover-Sherborne community is strong and known for its strength and resilience in the face of unimaginable tragedy. We will continue to support each other in the coming days and weeks as we surround Sadie’s family, friends and loved ones with care and love.” The New York Post. “I’ll hug my kids tighter this evening – I’m sure you will too.”

Six people were on board both of the crashes – a 17-year-old male was taken to hospital with a head injury.

The accident remains under investigation, but preliminary reports indicate the boat was equipped with two 250-horsepower engines and was registered in Alabama.

Crews were sent into the water on Saturday to remove debris from the crash.

“Members of the counseling team will be available in addition to crisis counselors from the Riverside Trauma Center and service dogs from the Dover and Sherborne Police Departments,” Smith said.
