A man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend and killing her toddler has been charged with multiple crimes, including murder.
Rashad Trice, 26, is facing 20 charges of sexual assault and assault with intent to murder, as well as the death of two-year-old Venter Cole Smith in the United States by the Michigan state attorney general.
Travis is accused of abducting the child in the town of Lansing on July 2 after he allegedly sexually assaulted its mother, and was arrested on the morning of July 3.
However, he was not with Winter when he was arrested, whose body was found three days later in a Detroit street.
Federal investigators say they believe the two-year-old was strangled to death with a cellphone charging lead.
In a statement, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said: “We allege today, and many of our indictments reflect, a horrific and brutal crime spree from Lansing to Detroit to St. Clair Shoals.”
Charges against Trias include murder, kidnapping and kidnapping causing death.
Trice is being held in the New York County Jail and could face life in prison without parole if convicted.
