Shaquille O’Neal will be honest. This was the reason why his marriage to ex-wife Shani Henderson ended.
Speaking to PEOPLE for a cover story, the basketball Hall of Famer called herself a “d—head” while married to Henderson, who was on the TV show “Basketball Wives.”
“I was a d— head,” O’Neal said. “You don’t know how good you got until it’s gone.”

O’Neal has admitted her mistakes in the past, telling “The Pivot Podcast” that “She was fantastic. She really was. It was all in me.”
O’Neal did not elaborate on why his first marriage ended, but noted that he “wasn’t keeping those vows.”

“Sometimes when you live that double life, you get stuck,” he added. “I wouldn’t say it was her, it was all in me.”
O’Neal and Henderson officially ended their union in 2011 after marrying in 2002. She married Pastor Kevin Henderson in May. O’Neal has not remarried.

The former couple had four children together. Sharif O’Neal, 22, is the oldest and a 6-foot-10 forward with G League Ignite who wants to follow his father’s NBA dream.
But he is not the only bowler in the family. Amira O’Neal, 21, played for Texas Southern University during the 2021-22 season, while Shakir O’Neal, 19, is with the Texas Southern men’s program. Amira also attended her father’s alma mater, LSU, as a basketball player during the 2020-21 season.
